accessables

How can we improve it? The objective of this project was to reimagine, redesign, or simply enhance the standard wheelchair. Through extensive testing, thorough research, interviews, and discussions, I narrowed down the focus to the following key aspects:

Comfort – Given the constraints of a budget model, cost considerations significantly impact comfort and build quality. However, comfort holds immense importance for users, and its definition varies greatly from one individual to another.

Individuality – Add-ons for wheelchairs are often expensive and can detract from the overall aesthetic. Moreover, the diverse needs of wheelchair users make mass production solutions impractical. When it comes to clothing, wheelchair users frequently find themselves conforming to their wheelchair‘s design rather than the other way around.

Social Inclusion – Many aspects of life remain inaccessible to wheelchair users, including clubs, beaches, and other social spaces. Enhancing accessibility in these areas fosters greater independence and inclusivity for wheelchair users.
